A BRIDGE OVER MELAKA RIVER

This is one of the many bridges that crosses over the Melaka River. The old bridge linked Cathay Cinema with the old Express bus station over the river. Now, it has been replaced with a visually pleasing bridge. Incidentally, the bridge looks very much like the bridge we see in Venice.

MELAKA CELEBRATES HER 7TH. BIRTHDAY AS A HISTORIC CITY

15th. April 2010

Happy 7th. Birthday to the Historic City of Melaka. 7 years ago, Melaka was declared Melaka Historic City and all Malaccans stood proud as Melaka is now recognised as historic.
In July 2008, Melaka gained world recognition as Unesco World Heritage City together with Georgetown, Penang. This new title was indeed well deserving to all Malaccans in Melaka and around the world. With Melaka 600 years of history, different cultures have blended together which can be seen in her rich cultural heritage, buildings, cuisines and languages.

Melaka shows the world that there can be UNITY in DIVERSITY. Different peoples, races and of different religious backgrounds, can indeed forge together as One. We can work, play, learn and understand one another despite our differences in language, cultures, religions and backgrounds. What we need is the determination in helping each other in times of needs and standing together as one.

It certainly makes me proud that as a Malaccan born in Melaka about 54 years ago is alive to see Melaka being declared a World Heritage City in 2008 and beyond. More work and effort must still be done by all Malaccans and Friends of Melaka around the globe. We can learn from everybody who wants Melaka to progress further in the years ahead.

For Malaccans in Melaka, let us show off to our visitors our different cultures and show them our hospitality, grace and cuisines. Make our visitors feel at home, away from home.

For Malaccans residing or earning their living in foreign lands, do not forget your roots and always encourage and inform the peoples of different lands of Melaka where it all began for all of us. We should be proud of our heritage wherever we are.

HAPPY 7TH BIRTHDAY MELAKA ON THIS HISTORIC DAY.
