Gold Coast Malacca spends RM50 million to refurbish abandoned resort

The Gold Coast Malacca International Resort has spent over RM50 million to refurbish an abandoned resort in Bukit Katil.
The resort previously known as the Melaka Water City was started in the year 2004 and was closed in the year 2009. After being abandoned for seven years, the Gold Coast Malacca International Resort has taken over and start refurbishing the hotel in March 2014.
“We have spent over RM50 million in these two years for renovation expenditures. We are improving the facilities and landscapes, to provide a family-centric resort,” said The Gold Coast Malacca International Resort general manager Wang Chen Yee.
“We have also spent over RM1 million to restore a ship, the Admiral Cheng Ho, which will be used to cater for events such as weddings and meetings,” he added.
The hotel refurbishment process is expected to be completed by October. “We will make sure that the resort facilities are reasonably priced as our main motive is to make it a recreational centre for the public,” said Wang.
Currently, the resort’s 2.4-hectare water theme park consists of a wave pool, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, garden, playground, boats and  more.
“At the moment, we are receiving around 20,000 to 30,000 visitors on a monthly basis, and we are expecting the number to go higher once the renovation is completed in October,” he stated further.
